Like the old adage “dress for success,” your business web page design says a lot about your company.  A well-designed web site tells the world that your company is on the leading edge in your market niche.  An outdated and static homepage, on the other hand, tells viewers that your company is not keeping up with the times and that your products or services are probably as antiquated as your web site.  However, a web site with a flashy design and pleasing graphics can only take your web site so far.

Content is king!  Having a cool looking homepage will never make up for a lack of web content.  Remember that most viewers will find your web site as a result of their using internet search engines to find what they are looking for.  If you don’t have lots of web content that is rich in keywords and phrases that lots of people are looking for, you might as well pack up and go home.  Nothing is going to happen, and nobody is going to find you.

Factors That Spell Success or Failure In Web Page Design

In order to have a successful web site, you need to be constantly adding fresh content. Lots of new and quality web content tells online viewers that there is a lot of exciting new things happening with your company.  It also helps bring up your search engine ranking.  Valuable web content, and the promise of more to come, will result in more viewers subscribing to your web site or blog post.  It also causes more people to bookmark your homepage for future viewing.  Content that never changes provides the appearance that your company has either gone out of business or is simply treading water.

It is always important to keep your intended viewing audience in mind when you are creating your web page design.  Like dressing for success, you need to wear the appropriate clothes for the occasion. You would never wear a t-shirt, shorts and flip-flops to a business management job interview.  The same goes for your web page design.  For example, if your web site has sliders containing pictures of half-naked, tatted-up girls straddling a motorcycle, it probably wouldn’t go over very well if your intended audience is mature older women.  If you are trying to appeal to teenage boys, it might be well received.  The important thing to remember is that you can’t be all things to everyone.  Always be thinking about what your typical viewer is looking for.  Imagine looking through their eyes when choosing pictures, movie thumbnails, article titles, sliders and banners.

Catering to your intended online audience also requires you to evaluate how your content is arranged and presented on your web site.   If your company is marketing mainly to younger people, you might want to use more vibrant colors, eye-catching imagery and brash headlines. If on the other hand, you are trying to appeal to older clients, you might want to use larger fonts and web pages that offer simpler ways to navigate the web site

Navigation is a key element that determines the success of your web site.  When designing how your users navigate through your web pages, you want its’ design to direct users to your intended result.  Your web site’s goal could be the viewer clicking on an affiliate’s hyperlink, purchasing a product or service, or filling out an online subscription form.  The bottom line is that every page on your web site has to have obvious call-to-action, whether it’s directing them to go deeper into your website, inviting them to enroll in your e-newsletter or getting them to buy a product or service.  Never leave people wondering what the next step ought to be.

It is also important that your web site is well organized.  Home pages should clearly announce what a web site is about and what is offered.  Navigation on your web site should move from the front page to more focused information contained in other pages positioned deeper in the site.  Make sure that links clearly indicate where they will lead the viewer next.  Avoid having dead links to a non-existing or empty page.  A disorganized, sloppy web site tells customers that your business probably has the same attributes.

It is a good idea to not get too carried away with gimmicky features like fancy sliders when designing your home page.  This can cause your web site to load very slowly.  Viewers often lose interest if your web site takes a long time to load.  To avoid this, keep your web pages simple.  At the same time, put in eye-catching pictures and movies in order to generate interest.

In this day and age, it is important that your web site have a responsive design that is “mobile-friendly.”  In 2013, over 56% of people worldwide had a smart phone.  Fifty percent of these mobile phone users use their phone as their primary internet source.  This is especially true for younger people and persons living in emerging economies.

In order to cater to people using their mobile devices to access the internet, you need to design your web pages using a responsive design.  This provides an optimal viewing experience across a wide range of devices such as desktop computers, computer tablets and mobile phones.  If done correctly, the viewer can read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning and scrolling.

Affiliate marketing programs are a great way to make extra money online if you have a web site or blog post.  When using any affiliate program, you’ll be most successful if you stick to products or services that will be of interest to visitors coming to your web site.  As a result, choose affiliate advertisers that sell products or services that are consistent with the content in your web site or blog post.
